From this picture, we can gain a better sense of scale. That's a good-sized serving of bioluminescent calamaro! There are bigger ones at the link. Poisonous octopodes as well.

Thanks for this post, that is intriguing enough to fire that long dormant marine-biology neuron! Do you think Robbie Davis could do something with his filet knife and a vat of peanut oil?
By "a vat," I take it you mean two or three 55-gallon drums? I've never knowingly eaten anything bioluminescent; tangy, or toxic? We should ask Rob the sashimi fan.
